David N. Blakesley
David Blakesley, CPCU, CIC, ARM formed DBEduBus.com education consulting services in 2009 (expanding his 25 year old education/training company) focusing on the development and delivering education programs for the Property/Casualty insurance industry; including CPCU, INS, ARM courses as well as 15 other popular property/casualty seminars.
His college studies focused on Government/Business/Economics at San Jose State University and School of Public Administration/Business-Graduate School of Public Administration Consortium-University of California at Berkeley
He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) 1978-2015, and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) professional designations.
Mr. Blakesley served the industry as a commercial lines underwriter, marketing representative, agency/brokerage manager, territory-underwriting manager for several property/casualty companies.
Mr. Blakesley has been an instructor for the IEA since 1979, teaching various courses in the CPCU, INS, ARM curriculum, plus numerous other insurance contract seminars focusing primarily on commercial insurance contracts. Additionally, he helped develop the AA Degree Property/Casualty program for the California Community College system, and is a retired adjunct undergraduate college insurance professor.
He continues to work with the Japanese and Chinese insurance industry developing education programs and teaching CPCU level courses and seminars for insurance industry professionals. He is a professor with Shanghai Finance University. Additionally, he has created online courses for CPCU, ARM, INS, CPDM, ERMP, ARPM, CCMP, and AIC professional designation programs.
From 1989 to 2009, Mr. Blakesley served as IEA’s Curriculum Director. In 2009 Mr. Blakesley transitioned to working with IEA as a curriculum consultant freeing up his time to work with other organizations in an education consulting capacity and writing.
He is an active member of the San Francisco Golden Gate CPCU Chapter and has served as Chapter President, Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and other elective and appointed CPCU Chapter positions since 1995. He was named the 2003 Golden Gate CPCU Chapter Insurance Professional of the Year. In 2005 David was the recipient of the Richard B. Masters Award given annually by the IEA Board of Directors to a United States insurance industry professional whose life-long contributions positively impacted the national insurance and/or risk management professions.
In addition to developing numerous seminar programs and education delivery formats he was responsible for development of the following national designations at IEA:
- Workers’ Compensation Claims Professional (WCCP) designation
- Certified Professional Disability Management (CPDM) designation
- Certified Case Management Professional (CCMP) designation
- Associate in Risk Pool Management (ARPM) designation
- Enterprise Risk Management Professional (ERMP)
David authored Orientation to Property/Casualty Insurance, Guide to the Property/Casualty Insurance Industry, plus co-authored ARPM 601 and ERMP 701 risk pool and enterprise risk management textbooks. In 2015 the new textbook for the Chinese and U.S. insurance industry will be published: U.S. Property Casualty Insurance Industry and Enterprise Risk Management.
