No. CPWC modules can be taken in any order and this one has no prerequisites. It assumes you work with California workers’ compensation claims.
Labor Code §4453(c) sets out the methods in order: the number of working days a week times daily earnings for regular full-time work; the aggregate of earnings from all employers where the worker holds more than one job; an average over a representative period not exceeding one year for piecework or commission; and, where none of those produce a fair result, 100 percent of the sum that reasonably represents average weekly earning capacity. For injuries on or after January 1, 2006 the statutory minimum and maximum are indexed annually to the change in California’s state average weekly wage, so the applicable figures depend on the date of injury rather than the date the claim is adjusted. Under 10 CCR §2592 a new indemnity claims adjuster needs 160 hours including 120 classroom hours; a medical-only adjuster needs 80 hours including 50 classroom; a medical bill reviewer needs 40 hours including 30 classroom. All must be completed within 12 consecutive months. The three CPWC tracks are built to those tiers. A single module does not meet the requirement on its own.
Yes. Post-designation training is 30 hours every two years for indemnity adjusters, 20 hours for medical-only adjusters and 16 hours for medical bill reviewers. Failing to complete it causes loss of designation until the training is done. Source: 10 CCR §§2592.02, 2592.03, 2592.04, 2592.14.
