Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Claims Practitioner in Workers' Compensation, and who is it for?
The CPWC Indemnity (IND) program is a certification built for professionals who handle, support, or supervise California workers’ compensation claims that involve wage loss and long-term exposure. It focuses on how indemnity benefits are calculated, paid, adjusted, and resolved, including temporary disability, permanent disability, apportionment, return to work issues, and claim resolution. How is CPWC-IND different from CPWC-MO and CPWC-MBR?
CPWC-MO focuses on treatment-only claim handling. CPWC-MBR focuses on medical billing, fee schedules, and payment disputes. If a claim has temporary disability, permanent disability, apportionment, or settlement activity, CPWC-IND is the track designed for that work.
What topics does CPWC-IND cover?
CPWC-IND covers the indemnity side of California workers’ compensation, including how wage loss benefits are determined and paid, how temporary and permanent disability benefits work, how permanent disability is evaluated and rated, how apportionment impacts claim value, how return to work issues affect benefits, and how claims are resolved through settlement and litigation processes. The course also reinforces the compliance side of indemnity claim handling, including documentation practices, ethics, and oversight considerations.
