Azucena wrote the Disability Management Compliance Specialist course and presents every lesson in it. She has worked in integrated disability and absence management since the mid-1990s.

What Azucena does for IEA

Azucena developed and presents DMCS, a six-lesson micro-credential on California and federal disability and leave compliance. She also presents IEA’s disability and leave webinar series. The case studies she teaches are cases she ran.

Practice

Azucena designs and administers integrated disability and absence management programs. She has built and run those programs for major public agencies including the City of Oakland, BART, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the County of Orange. She is not an attorney, and her training is compliance practice rather than legal advice.

Teaching and speaking

DMCS runs six sessions covering federal and California disability law, the interactive process from trigger to meeting, medical leave as a reasonable accommodation, evaluating restrictions against essential job functions, running an interactive process meeting, and what changes when a restriction becomes permanent.
